SEFIRA is a French non-profit association that advances superconducting electronics through open-source tools, raising awareness of the energy consumption of electronic systems, and training.

Superconducting circuits switch in picoseconds and dissipate orders of magnitude less energy than semiconductor circuits. They are at the heart of ultra-sensitive detectors, quantum metrology, energy-efficient digital processing, superconducting supercomputers and future quantum computers. Yet the tools to design them have long been scarce or hard to use. SEFIRA’s goal is to change that.

Training the next generation We develop educational content to train newcomers in the field. In particular we support the international Summer School on Superconducting Electronics, which introduces students, engineers and researchers to the field and its latest advances. We can also offer workshops on specific topics.

Open-source design tools We develop and maintain FrugalEDA, a free design suite for energy-frugal superconductor electronics: from schematic to simulation to publication-ready figures.

Connecting the community We bring together academic and industrial players and work with international partners to share knowledge and lower the barrier to entry.
